Home furnishings retailer IKEA has appointed Deacon as contractor to build a new, updated store in Renton, in the US state of Washington.

To be spread over an area of around 406,000ft2, the proposed store with two levels will be constructed on the parking area of the current store, which will be demolished later to create room for more parking.

The Renton store will provide nearly 1,600 convenient parking spaces.

The customers can continue to shop at the existing Renton store, until the new store opens in 2017.

IKEA US president Lars Petersson said: "IKEA is excited at the opportunity to relocate our established, successful presence at the same location as the existing one, and appreciate the city’s support.

"Opening a new, updated Seattle-area store at the same location allows us to offer an enhanced IKEA shopping experience."

The store will offer around 10,000 exclusively designed items, 50 inspirational room-settings, three model home interiors, a supervised children’s play area, and a larger restaurant for serving Swedish specialties. It will also house Children’s IKEA area, baby-care rooms and play areas.

Based in the US, Deacon specializes in construction of retail, multifamily housing, mixed-use buildings, hotels, restaurants and entertainment facilities, as well as healthcare and office buildings.

IKEA currently has more than 360 IKEA stores in 47 countries, including 40 in the US.
