Swedish home furnishings retailer Ikea is planning to open a new store in Nashville, marking its second outlet in the state of Tennessee, US.
Construction of Ikea Nashville will begin between March and May 2019, while the store is scheduled to open between June and September 2020. It is located on the western side of Interstate 24.
Pending approvals, the initiative is set to increase the retailer’s presence in the country, where it already has 43 stores.
The 341,000ft² proposed store is situated around 13 miles south-east of downtown Nashville and has 1,100 parking spaces to be built on 36 acres.
Ikea US president Lars Petersson said: “This location would provide our already 140,000 Nashville-area customers their own store and introduce the unique IKEA shopping experience to others throughout Middle Tennessee.”
Plans are underway to evaluate potential of onsite power generation consistent with the company’s current US renewable energy presence at nearly 90% of its US locations.
Store features will include 10,000 exclusively designed items, 50 inspirational room-settings, three model home interiors, a supervised children’s play area, and a 450-seat restaurant serving Swedish specialties such as meatballs with lingonberries, salmon plates, and American dishes.
The facility will also include Children’s IKEA area, baby care rooms, and play areas throughout the store, as well as create approximately 750 jobs, including 500 during construction phase.
Ikea currently operates more than 390 stores in 48 countries.
