Swedish home furnishings retailer Ikea is set to open its new relocated store at Burbank, California, US, on 8 February, while permanently closing the original store on 4 February.
Being constructed on 22 acres west of San Fernando Boulevard and south of Providencia Avenue, the new 456,000ft² store will include 1,700 parking spaces.
Opened in November 1990, the original 242,000ft² store was built on 6.4 acres.
Ikea Burbank store manager Jeff O’Shaughnessy said: “We are thrilled by the excellent construction progress and are confident we can complete the remaining milestones and interior build-up by early-February.
“We cannot wait for customers to experience our new store’s ease of access, convenient parking and updated layout.”
The new store will include approximately 10,000 items, 50 room-settings, three model home interiors, a supervised children’s play area and a 600 seat restaurant, in addition to baby-care rooms and play areas.
Ikea provides multiple customer services such as home delivery, product assembly, product picking and delivery, as well as a loyalty programme.
The new store created 500 jobs during construction and is expected to create additional 150 in-store positions. It also features a solar array on the top, similar to other stores in the country.
Founded in 1943, Ikea provides home furnishings through its more than 390 stores across 48 countries.
