Kohl’s is set to allow free returns for customers of online retailer Amazon at 82 stores across Los Angeles and Chicago later this month.

Using the service, Amazon customers can return merchandise purchased on Amazon.com to select local Kohl’s stores. The company will then pack and transport all returned items to Amazon's return centres.

Products can be returned without any charge independent of return reason and whether they are packaged for shipping.

Kohl’s chief administrative officer Richard Schepp said: “We are thrilled to launch this unprecedented and innovative concept, allowing customers to bring in their unpackaged Amazon returns to Kohl’s and we will pack them, ship them, and return them to Amazon for free.

"Customers [can] bring in their unpackaged Amazon returns to Kohl’s and we will pack them, ship them, and return them to Amazon for free."

“This is a great example of how Kohl’s and Amazon are leveraging each other's strengths; the power of Kohl’s store portfolio and omnichannel capabilities combined with the power of Amazon’s reach and loyal customer base.”

The development comes after Kohl’s launched new Amazon smart home spaces in ten select stores across the Los Angeles and Chicago areas to offer Amazon devices, accessories, and services earlier this month.

Amazon worldwide customer returns director Shivi Shankaran said: “Amazon Returns at Kohl’s creates a convenient location for Amazon customers to return eligible Amazon.com merchandise.

“Teaming up with Kohl’s provides an incredible opportunity to pair our world-class return experience with a great shopping experience, expanding our service options to our customers in the Los Angeles and Chicago areas.”
