US-based telecommunications company Sprint has revealed plans to open 79 new retail stores across Texas by the end of this year.
This move is expected to create more than 550 new jobs, which will include a combination of retail, operations and technical experts.
Sprint currently employs 2,700 staff in 350 retail locations across Texas.
Commenting on the plans, Sprint Central Texas regional president John Stevens said: “This retail expansion is our largest expansion initiative in Texas since the launch of Sprint PCS stores. It’s also a big part of our regional approach that delivers a world-class experience to our customers locally while also providing access to Sprint’s industry-leading unlimited value to wireless shoppers across the state.
“With our continued network improvements throughout the state and Sprint’s charitable causes like the 1Million Project, Sprint continually seeks opportunities to give back locally and provide an avenue for our partners and customers to make a difference in communities across Texas.”
The company has plans to open five new stores in the Houston area, as well as seven that will fill Radio Shack locations.
A Sprint spokesperson was reported by Chron.com as saying that an additional 20 to 25 stores could be opened later in the region.
The company is also currently carrying out network improvements to provide better connectivity to its customers across Texas.
As part of boosting its network performance, Sprint has recently enhanced coverage at NRG Stadium in Houston by 500% and started deployments of its three-channel carrier aggregation to deliver more capacity and faster speeds at locations around the area.
