Walmart Canada is allowing the listing of third-party sellers on its online platform, in an effort to bolster its e-commerce sales.

The development allows Walmart to expand its global online marketplace to Walmart Canada’s online store Walmart.ca.

Products belonging to categories such as home, baby, apparel, toys and sporting goods are currently being offered on Walmart.ca through 27 third-party sellers.

“Our goal is simple, to make shopping easier and more convenient for our customers."

Walmart Canada technology and e-commerce executive vice-president Rick Neuman said: “Our goal is simple, to make shopping easier and more convenient for our customers.

“The expansion through the walmart.ca marketplace allows us to rapidly grow our product assortment through sellers we’ve chosen specifically to address the needs of our customers.”

Through the marketplace, the company intends to double the product base on its website, with further plans to quadruple the number of products available online before the end of the year.

In the coming months, more sellers are expected to join the programme, which also allows partners selling on the Walmart US marketplace to follow suit on its Canadian counterpart.

With a retail network of 410 stores, Walmart Canada is focused on expanding its online assortment in order to meet the needs of consumers.
