US-based home furnishings retailer West Elm has opened a new store in Hoboken, New Jersey.

The 10,745ft² store offers a variety of local products manufactured by 11 local artisans and designers, as well as a holiday assortment of home furnishings and decor products.

The West Elm Hoboken store also provides Williams-Sonoma’s cross-brand design consultation programme Design Crew, which enables customers to meet with experts who can offer design, installation and registry services.

“Hoboken’s burgeoning waterfront and proximity to New York City has established it as a community with an appetite for unique cultural experiences, entertainment and speciality retail.”

West Elm president Alex Bellos said: “Hoboken’s burgeoning waterfront and proximity to New York City has established it as a community with an appetite for unique cultural experiences, entertainment and speciality retail.

“We hope to contribute to the neighbourhood’s continued growth and create opportunities for residents and visitors to connect and share their common interests, whether it’s at our in-store workshops and community-driven events or by discovering a New Jersey-based artist from the LOCAL Hoboken assortment.”

The new store’s interior also features various elements of the surrounding area, including a hand-painted map of Hoboken and New York behind the cash register.

The register’s front panel includes a sculptural installation made of reclaimed spindles procured from regional brownstones to showcase the 19th century homes lining Hoboken’s streets.

West Elm Hoboken’s loft area features an accent floor, which is set in a basket-weave pattern made using mixed American hardwoods sourced from barns once found in the country’s farmlands.

The loft’s ceiling is made of bleached reclaimed oak assembled in a similar pattern with the floor.
