Alongside Prisma’s own products, the site will list goods from selected outside sellers and brands, with the range widening gradually.

According to a translated version of the statement, the company expects the move to enlarge its assortment by as much as tenfold.

The first phase is expected to involve a few dozen sellers, which would nearly double the current range.

Many of the new products are expected in electronics, home, and sports categories.

The model has already been trialled with the first sellers, and the first customers will be able to use the marketplace as of this month.

Only sellers based in Finland or elsewhere in Europe that agree to Prisma’s terms and conditions will be admitted.

Operated by Finnish cooperative retailer S Group, Prisma will set the marketplace rules and share responsibility for the customer experience with the sellers.

Shoppers will stay on the same online store and continue to earn Bonus on their purchases.

Prisma.fi handles consumer goods while online grocery shopping remains on the S-kaupat.fi service.

Prisma said the change is meant to help it compete with global e-commerce companies and give Finnish brands, distributors and retailers a new sales channel.

It added that success on the marketplace could serve as a stepping stone for sellers expanding abroad.

The revamp is part of S Group’s “technological renewal and investment in the growth of digital commerce”.

S Group consumer goods director Sebastian Nyström said: “Finns deserve the opportunity to have a wide selection and a smooth online shopping experience without worrying about product safety or their personal data being leaked to the world.”
