German drugstore retailer Dirk ROSSMANN is set to enhance its Spanish market presence by implementing SymphonyAI’s AI-based store and space planning solutions.

The strategic move aims to support the company’s growth while ensuring a consistent and high-quality shopping experience across all formats.

ROSSMANN has 23 stores in Spain. It opened its first store in the country in Valencia in July 2020.

The retailer will adopt SymphonyAI’s solution to scale its operations into the Spanish growth market, providing customers with access to an extensive range of 12,000 to 15,000 items and delivering an enhanced and uniform shopping experience in every store.

SymphonyAI’s shelf planning application uses AI to address real-time space limitations, merchandising strategies and local consumer preferences.

The technology creates tailored shelf layouts that enhance the shopping experience and improve operational efficiency.

The company’s macro space-planning tool allows retailers to refine layouts for all store dimensions and formats.

ROSSMANN has already adopted SymphonyAI to optimise shelf arrangement and customer engagement across its stores in Germany.

ROSSMANN IT head Christian Metzner said: “We have integrated SymphonyAI store and space planning into our international reference architecture from an IT perspective so we can support scalability while supporting our business colleagues to ensure a consistent, high-quality shopper experience using data-driven automated and optimised planograms and assortments across all our store formats.”

ROSSMANN has 4,514 branches and 60,500 employees.

In 2022, the group reported sales of €12.15bn across countries including Spain, Germany, Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic.

SymphonyAI retail CPG division international senior vice-president Dusan Rnic said: “Our AI-based solutions for macro and micro space planning help ROSSMANN automate complex processes and present engaging, thoughtfully merchandised assortments that satisfy shoppers and achieve business objectives.”
