SPAR Georgia has further expanded its regional presence by opening the 44th store through SPAR Partner in the country’s capital city Tbilisi.
The licence to operate the brand was granted to SPAR Georgia by Dutch food retail chain SPAR International in early 2014.
According to the company, the new store will place a greater emphasis on SPAR Own Brand products and locally sourced produce.
The bakery section in the new SPAR supermarket will feature traditional Georgian baked products such as Khachapuri, a cheese-filled bread, and Lobiani, a bean-filled bread. It will also allow its customers to see how its bread, pizzas and other foods are being made.
By adding local produce, the Dutch retail chain intends to improve store traffic and increase its product sales.
The store will also include SPAR’s own baby food range, an increased grocery line and non-food departments.
SPAR Georgia’s new store will also have an in-store SPAR Café and feature a self-service coffee and tea machine and a Grab-and-Go sandwich counter for customers who don’t have time to wait in line at cashier check-outs.
Last year, SPAR Georgia is reported to have entered three new local markets and opened a number of new stores.
