US-based discount store retailer Target has partnered with online delivery marketplace, Shipt, to launch a same-day delivery service in Chicago.
Starting today, Shipt will deliver more than 55,000 groceries, essentials, home, electronics, toys and other products to customers from Target stores.
This expansion follows the retailer’s recent launch of the same-day delivery service through Shipt in six Midwest states, including Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin.
Target executive vice-president and chief operating officer John Mulliga said: “Same-day delivery was at the top of our list when we were thinking about ways to make shopping at Target even easier.
“Shipt’s personalised, customer-focused approach fits perfectly with our commitment to deliver a convenient, exceptional experience and we’re excited to begin offering same-day service across Illinois.”
Target also plans to offer same-day delivery of an in-store assortment of groceries, essentials, home, electronics, toys and other products from more stores by the 2018 holiday season.
The company will also expand the service to 65% of US households across 180 markets by the end of this year and will include all major product categories at Target in the service next year.
As part of the launch, Shift is also offering its annual membership for $49 to new customers, along with $15 credit to spend on a Target order of $100 or above.
The company first launched its delivery service in Illinois in collaboration with select retailers in July last year and now has access to more than 3.5 million households in the region.
The delivery company also plans to add its shopper network across Illinois in a bid to ensure accurate fulfilment of each order.
