Canadian retailer The Beer Store is set to play a central role in the Ontario Government’s accelerated retail expansion plans for beverage alcohol.

The recent announcement by the provincial government has confirmed The Beer Store’s status as the primary distributor of beer in the province.

The Beer Store CEO Roy Benin said: “This announcement underscores our commitment to responsible beer distribution and environmental stewardship. With today’s announcement, we look forward to the next stage in The Beer Store’s evolution.”

Since the 2015 Master Framework Agreement, The Beer Store has successfully navigated the evolving marketplace, which has seen the addition of 450 grocery stores and the expansion of the LCBO’s Liquor Convenience Outlet programme.

The Beer Store employs 6,500 Ontarians, offering a wide selection of beers and responsible service across the province.

Last year, the company’s delivery fleet completed 727,868 deliveries to various outlets, demonstrating its extensive distribution capabilities.

Looking ahead to 2024 and beyond, the retailer plans to expand its distribution network to service over 10,000 retail outlets.

To facilitate this expansion, the company invested $100m in a new distribution centre, point of sale technology upgrades, online sales, delivery services, and partnerships with platforms like Skip the Dishes.

These modernisation efforts are set to position The Beer Store as a competitive and socially responsible provider of beer in Ontario.

The company’s move to a future expanded marketplace will continue this summer and autumn.
