Uber Technologies has partnered with five regional US grocery retailers, adding Busch’s Fresh Food Market, Hays, Lowe’s Market, Marc’s, and Piggly Wiggly to Uber Eats.

The newly added chains operate across Michigan, Arkansas, Missouri, Texas, Ohio, and North Carolina, extending the grocery selection available through Uber Eats.

In its statement, Uber said: “By adding more regional and independent grocers, Uber Eats continues to expand selection while helping retailers reach customers in a fast and flexible way.”

Customers will be able to place orders from these retailers for immediate or scheduled delivery and track their orders in real time through the Uber Eats, Uber, and Postmates apps.

Busch’s Fresh Food Market is a family-run business that has operated in Michigan for more than five decades.

Hays has been operating for more than 100 years and runs stores in Arkansas and Missouri under the Hays Supermarkets and Food Smart names.

Lowe’s Market is part of the Pay and Save group and primarily serves communities in Texas.

Marc’s is an independently owned chain in Ohio that sells groceries, health and beauty products, general merchandise, and closeout stock.

Piggly Wiggly’s availability on Uber Eats is restricted to its locations in North Carolina.

Uber North America grocery and retail head Hashim Amin said: “Whether it is a regional chain that has been part of a community for decades or a neighbourhood market customers visit every week, people want familiar grocery options that fit their routines.

“These new partnerships help us bring more of those local favourites to Uber Eats while creating new opportunities for grocers to grow their business.”

The grocery expansion follows other retail partnerships by Uber this year.

In May, Uber Eats added specialist beauty retailer Ulta Beauty to the platform, making products from more than 1,500 of its stores nationwide available to customers.

Earlier this month, Uber Technologies also signed an agreement with GameStop to offer delivery of the retailer’s video games, consoles, accessories, collectibles, and other electronics through Uber Eats, with scheduled and on-demand options available from GameStop stores across the country.
