US drugstore chain Walgreens is offering its customers shopping online with a ‘fastest’ same-day retail pickup option.

Orders made online or on a fully redesigned mobile app can be picked up at curbside or at the drive-thru in less than 30 minutes.

The benefit is being launched under its newly reinvented customer loyalty programme with more than 100 million members.

Named myWalgreens, the service offers other new benefits, including same-day retail pickup.

Under this, Walgreens is also offering at-home delivery service through partnership with DoorDash and Postmates and a Prescription Savings Club with up to 80% off cash retail prices.

Walgreens president John Standley said: “As America’s community pharmacy, Walgreens is delivering an unparalleled experience to help customers and patients manage their health and wellbeing during the most severe health crisis of our lifetimes.

“As always, our more than 25,000 community pharmacists remain at the core of our offering.

“Our pharmacists and patient care teams do far more than just filling prescriptions. They provide trusted advice, personalised support and a vast range of services.”

The re-invented app features various features for customers and patients, including a 24/7 pharmacy chat, find and book medical care and vaccination appointments, and wellness advice, real-time flu alerts and more.

In September this year, the chain launched a new programme Walgreens Test & Protect to aid businesses in their Covid-19 work plans and strategies.

In May, Walgreens introduced a new feature that will enable the customers to place orders in advance for drive-thru shopping.
