Walmart has revealed new artificial intelligence (AI)-powered tools at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024 in Las Vegas, US.

Some of the technologies showcased include a new generative AI (genAI)-powered search experience that allows consumers to search by specific use cases and generate cross-category results.

The company also revealed Walmart InHome Replenishment and a beta social commerce platform called Shop with Friends.

Leveraging AI and the company’s replenishment expertise, Walmart InHome Replenishment helps customers fill their online shopping carts with the right products and get their orders delivered at the right time to their doorstep.

Shop with Friends offers a new augmented reality shopping experience, enabling customers to create, share and get feedback on the virtual outfits.

Walmart president and CEO Doug McMillon said: “Walmart’s purpose is to help people live better – and today more than ever, advances in technology make it feel like anything is possible. Our technology roadmap is compelling and we’re very excited about it, but we’re clear that we are a people-led, tech-powered company. People, our customers and associates, come first and we’ll put technology to work to serve them better than ever.”

The company also announced plans to expand its genAI-powered associate tool, My Assistant, to 11 countries in 2024.

The company also announced the expansion of its drone delivery service to 75% of the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) area, comprising more than 30 towns and municipalities in the DFW metroplex.

Walmart US innovation and automation senior vice-president Prathibha Rajashekhar said: “This expansion will bring the ultimate convenience of drone delivery to communities across the DFW area. Customers will have access to a broad assortment of items from Walmart available for delivery to their homes in just minutes.

“Drone delivery is not just a concept of the future, it’s happening now and will soon be a reality for millions of additional Texans.”
