Multinational retail corporation Walmart has launched self-service fresh produce scales across many of its stores in China.
Known as RetailAI, the artificial intelligence (AI) powered self-service scale solution features advanced product recognition capability.
The solution has been developed by graphic software development company Malong Technologies.
It helps in offering customers a significantly faster checkout experience and addresses the demand for self-service shopping.
Upon placing the bagged items on the scale, RetailAI Fresh is capable of identifying the product.
RetailAI is the result of the Walmart Omega 8 Innovation Platform.
Malong Technologies co-founder and CEO Matt Scott said: “Through Walmart’s Omega 8 platform, we have the opportunity to dive deep into the retail industry.
“Our partnership allows us to make a significant impact by delivering high-value solutions that reduce shrink, create a more positive customer shopping experience, return rapid value back to the business, all while leveraging state of the art and scalable artificial intelligence technology.
“As a technology provider dedicated to helping our customers apply AI product recognition, we focus on the real needs of the industry and are fortunate to work with retail leaders such as Walmart.”
The solution is being rolled out in 100 Walmart stores in China.
In January 2019, Walmart China launched its Omega 8 innovation platform to transform store operations and improving customer experience.
