US-based supermarket Walmart is planning to expand its online grocery delivery service to more than 100 metro areas across the country this year.

, the service is currently offered in six markets across the US.

Walmart US president and CEO Greg Foran said: “We’re saving customers time by leveraging new technology and connecting all the parts of our business into a single seamless shopping experience: great stores, easy pick-up, fast delivery, and apps and websites that are simple to use.

“We’re serving our customers in ways that no one else can. Using our size and scale, we’re bringing the best of Walmart to customers across the country.”

Using Walmart’s grocery delivery service, customers will have the convenience to receive the delivery of their products at their specified location.

The supermarket currently delivers a wide-range of products, including fresh produce, meat, seafood, bakery items and seasonal general merchandise.

It also offers online grocery pick-up service, which allows customers to order their groceries online and collect them in-store.

The online grocery pick-up service is currently being offered in 1,200 stores, and the retailer is planning to add 1,000 more locations this year.

Walmart US digital operations vice-president Tom Ward said: “Our commitment goes further than saving customers money. 90% of Americans live within ten miles of a Walmart store, and we serve more than 150 million customers a week, which gives us a unique opportunity to make every day a little easier for busy families.

“Today, we’re expanding this promise by helping even more customers save time and money without leaving their homes.”
