US retailer Walmart has expanded its operation in Pennsylvania with the new fulfilment centre in Greencastle. 

The 1.5 million square-foot facility at 1915 Ebberts Spring Court combines people, technology and machine learning to expedite shipping and delivery, increases Walmart.com’s order fulfilment capacity and aligns with the retailer’s goal of providing next-day or two-day shipping to a broader customer base.

The Greencastle facility is the fourth of Walmart’s next-generation fulfilment centres. The fifth will open in 2026.  

The centres are integral to its fulfilment network, which aims to reach 95% of the US population with expedited shipping services.  

The company’s third-party fulfilment service will also use the new space to process Marketplace items.

The new centre will employ one thousand associates. Walmart is currently recruiting for a range of positions, including tech-focused jobs.  

In Pennsylvania, Walmart employs more than 55,000 associates and spent $16.2bn with local suppliers in the fiscal year 2024, supporting 156,519 supplier jobs.  

In May 2024 it revealed its decision to cut hundreds of corporate roles as part of restructuring.
