UK supermarket chain Aldi is planning to create more than 800 jobs for its new stores in the country before Christmas.

The retailer, which has more than 990 stores, plans to open more stores in towns and cities such as Oldham, Flitwick and Coventry, as well as in other locations across the country.

Aldi will be hiring for various positions, including managerial positions, caretakers, cleaners and store apprentices.

Store assistants at Aldi receive a starting pay of £11.40 per hour nationally and £12.85 per hour inside the M25.

Aldi currently has approximately 40,000 employees.

Aldi UK recruitment director Kelly Stokes said: “As we continue to invest in new stores, we’re looking for hundreds more colleagues to join our incredible teams across the country.

“Working at Aldi means a great working environment and real opportunities to progress within the business and we look forward to welcoming even more people to be a part of our success in the future.”

In a separate development, Aldi announced price cuts on fruit and veg products to support customers amid the cost-of-living crisis.

Prices will be reduced on ten products, including avocados, red peppers, baking potatoes and sweetcorn.

Aldi UK buying managing director Julie Ashfield said: “We know that shoppers are having to make hard choices at the moment, which is why we’re passing savings on to our customers anywhere we can.

“We know it can be difficult to access food that is both nutritious and affordable, so we recognise that lowering the costs of healthy food and veg staples like these is so important right now.”

Recently, supermarket chain Asda also dropped the prices of 226 own-label products to support families amid the increasing cost of living crisis.
