Amazon has introduced a new version of its Prime subscription aimed at people aged 18 to 24 in the United States.
The programme, called Prime for Young Adults, offers the same benefits as a standard Prime membership at half the usual cost.
Pricing and eligibility
The discounted plan is priced at $7.49 per month or $69 per year. New members who are eligible can sign up for a six-month free trial before payment begins.
Age verification is required, with applicants asked to provide identification such as a driver’s licence, passport, or identity card.
Students enrolled in higher education can also register using a .edu email address.
Services included
Subscribers receive the full range of Prime benefits, which include free delivery on millions of items—many available with same-day or next-day shipping—as well as access to streaming films, series, music, and e-books.
Additional services available through Prime include Prime Video, Prime Gaming, Amazon Music, and unlimited photo storage.
Additional features
Amazon has also added features designed for the younger demographic. These include limited-time cashback offers of 5% on categories such as beauty, clothing, electronics, and personal care.
Members can also access periodic promotional events and exclusive product releases.
The company said the scheme is intended to make Prime more affordable for people at the start of their working lives or studies.
Wider expansion
Amazon has in recent years expanded its delivery network, with same-day grocery delivery now available in more than 1,000 U.S. cities. It also provides discounts on fuel purchases at certain petrol stations through its Prime membership.
