US retailer Costco Wholesale has reported net income of $2.99bn during fiscal fourth quarter, which ended 30 August 2026, marking a 14.9% increase from the corresponding period.

The retailer said the figure included a one-off gain of $0.15 per diluted share, tied to International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) tariff refunds received during the quarter.

This was partly offset by the company directing those refunds towards member value initiatives.

Excluding this item, net income was up 12.3% while diluted earnings per share rose 12.4%.

Diluted earnings per share for the 16-week quarter reached $6.75, up from $5.87 in the same period a year earlier.

Total revenue for the quarter climbed to $95.72bn, compared with $86.15bn previously, while operating income rose 13.8% to $3.80bn.

Comparable sales across the group increased 9.4% for the quarter, driven by a 10.7% rise in the US, 5% growth in Canada and a 7% increase across other international markets.

Membership fee income was up 7.3% for the quarter, or 7.7% once foreign exchange effects are excluded.

For the full 52-week fiscal year, net income climbed to $9.22bn, up from $8.09bn in fiscal 2025.

Diluted earnings per share for the year came to $20.76, against $18.21 the previous year.

Total revenue for the year rose to $303.15bn from $275.23bn, with operating income reaching $11.685bn, a 12.5% increase.

Costco had 939 warehouses in operation as of the end of the quarter, up from 914 a year earlier.

Of these, 647 were located in the US and Puerto Rico, 115 in Canada, 43 in Mexico and 134 across other international markets.

The company said it expects to be operating 967 warehouses by the end of fiscal 2027.

Last week, Costco broadened its delivery arrangements in the US, partnering with DoorDash and Uber Eats to bring its products onto both platforms.
