DESPAR Italia (SPAR Italy) expanded its presence in the Italian grocery sector in November 2025, adding ten new outlets and reopening two revamped stores. 

All openings are across its DESPAR Express, DESPAR Supermarket and EUROSPAR formats. 

Five DESPAR Express convenience stores were launched. The new locations were in Castrovillari, Villapiana, Strongoli, Corigliano-Rossano and Limbadi.  

These small-format outlets are positioned around ease of access, product quality and a wide selection of DESPAR private-label lines, with some sites aimed at meeting demand in expanding local communities. 

The group also opened new DESPAR supermarkets in Chivasso, near Turin, and in Catanzaro, while renovated stores in Auronzo di Cadore and Paternò resumed trading.  

Its updated locations feature redesigned layouts, upgraded departments and a focus on environmental considerations and sourcing from local suppliers.  

Two EUROSPAR supermarkets were added to the network during the month.  

In Ravenna, the new store forms part of an urban regeneration scheme that converted an abandoned industrial building and introduced infrastructure, including cycle paths and green spaces.  

Another EUROSPAR opened in Davoli Marina, providing a full supermarket assortment with fresh food counters. 

DESPAR Italia, which received the SPAR brand licence in 1959, operates as a limited liability consortium and grants sub-licences to regional operators.  

The organisation places particular emphasis on sourcing for its own-brand ranges to strengthen purchasing power across the consortium. 

In October 2025, DESPAR Italia and its six consortium partners broadened their presence further with 10 additional outlets and two modernised stores across multiple formats, including new DESPAR Express locations in Tor Bella Monaca in Rome, Acquaformosa in Calabria and Serramanna.
