US-based Dick’s Sporting Goods and its subsidiary Foot Locker plan to recruit more than 11,000 seasonal workers across North American retail operations for the 2026 holiday shopping season.

Dick’s expects to hire about 8,400 seasonal employees for its Dick’s Sporting Goods, Dick’s House of Sport, Going Going Gone! and Public Lands stores.

The company’s ninth annual “National Signing Day” will take place on 21 October 2026.

According to the company, candidates will be able to interview on site and meet store leadership at participating locations.

Recruitment will remain open until positions are filled, it added.

Foot Locker plans to recruit about 2,900 seasonal teammates across its Foot Locker, Kids Foot Locker, WSS and Champs Sports stores in North America.

Seasonal Dick’s Sporting Goods employees will receive hourly pay, associate discounts at participating brands, and access to the company’s retirement savings plan after 30 days of employment.

The plan includes a fully vested company match with no waiting period.

Dick's executive vice president, chief people, purpose and transformation officer Julie Lodge-Jarrett said: “Our stores truly come alive during the holidays, and seasonal teammates bring the passion and team spirit that make shopping with us so special.

“Whether it is helping a parent pick out a first baseball glove or equipping a young athlete for the winter season, our store teams play a huge role in creating holiday memories.”

In its second-quarter financial update to 1 August 2026, Dick’s reported a 53.2% increase in net sales to $5.58bn. Net income fell 10% to $319m.

The company maintained its Dick's Business comparable sales outlook of 2.5% to 4% growth.

It lowered Foot Locker Business proforma comparable sales expectations to between negative 2% and 0% and reduced its operating income outlook for both businesses.

Earlier this month, Marks & Spencer announced plans to recruit 11,000 seasonal workers across its UK stores for Christmas.
