QuadReal Property Group has completed the final phase of the redevelopment of the Willowbrook Shopping centre located in Langley Township, Canada. The redevelopment began in 2016 and was completed in June 2020.

Built in 1979, the shopping centre receives more than 6.9 million visitors a year. The redevelopment has added new entertainment, home, food, and fashion outlets in the mall.

The facility is an enclosed shopping centre and serves as a premium shopping destination in Fraser valley.

Willowbrook Shopping centre location

The shopping centre is located on the Fraser Highway in Langley, British Columbia. It is situated 45 minutes southeast of the city of Vancouver.

The mall is situated at the intersection of the City of Langley and the Township of Langley and is accessible via highways and main roads.

Willowbrook Shopping centre redevelopment details

The shopping centre has more than 2.5 million square feet of retail space, housing more than 150 stores. The redevelopment has added more space to host over 200 retailers, service providers and restaurants.

Phase one of the redevelopment included the conversion of a former Target outlet into a new Toys ‘R’ Us and Sport Chek. The 40,000ft²  former Toys R Us space at the north end will be replaced by the T&T Supermarket in the fourth quarter of 2021. The Canadian supermarket chain will include Chinese BBQ, Asian deli, and sushi food outlets, and an in-house bakery.

As part of the redevelopment, the shopping centre opened off-price department store Nordstrom Rack, spread across an area of 30,000ft². The shopping centre also houses Steve’s Poké Bar, Fatburger, Murchies Tea & Coffee, Tim Hortons and Starbucks.

Retail outlets and amenities at the mall

The retail stores at the mall include Jack & Jones, Aldo, Michael Hill, Bath & Body Works, Foot Locker, H&M, Pandora, SoftMoc, The Children’s Place, American Eagle Outfitters, The Body Shop, and Sephora. Opened in October 2018, The Pop-In hosts many local businesses such as Vancouver Fashion Truck, State of Grace, Style Vancouver, Nettle’s Tale, HelloFresh and Buddha-Full Provisions.

The shopping facility also houses Winners discount store and Hudson’s Bay department store. Visitors can choose from a range of dining options including TacoTime, Subway, Manchu Wok, Crêpe Delicious, Freshslice Pizza, and KFC.

Construction

The exterior construction work on the shopping centre included structural updates to the existing entrances to make way for a new glass box structure. The contractor also performed upgrades to the exterior facade and incorporated a wood slat ceiling feature for improved interiors. The mall renovation project was carried out in two stages.

In addition to the relocation of the Toys ‘R’ Us, the Phase one of the redevelopment involved the creation of four new tenant spaces by repurposing the former Sears premises, as well as the renovation of the mall’s interior and its food court.

The second phase included the development of two new entrances to the mall. Canadian firm Graham performed the construction and renovation works under both the phases of the redevelopment project.
