British co-operative group Co-op has expanded its footprint with the opening of a new 2,250ft2 convenience store in New Romney, Kent, UK.

The new store, which opened on 3 May, has generated 16 local jobs and features an array of amenities including an in-store bakery, a Costa Coffee Express machine, customer car parking, and a free ATM.

Located on Littlestone Road, the store offers a wide selection of healthy produce, meal ideas, and everyday essentials.

The product range includes food-to-go, Fairtrade items, flowers, chilled beers, award-winning wines, ready meals, and an assortment of free-from, vegan, and plant-based products.

In line with environmental sustainability efforts, the store has introduced a soft plastic recycle unit, allowing customers to recycle items such as crisp packets, bread bags, and pet food pouches.

For added customer convenience, the store also offers a click and collect service for groceries through Co-op’s online shop.

Co-op Store manager Gordon Hebdon said: “The whole team is enjoying welcoming the community into their new Co-op, we have had a great response, and it is a proud day to have launched Co-op’s newest store. Our aim is to operate at the heart of local life and we have worked to develop the range, choice and added services to create a compelling offer to serve our community and visitors to the area, conveniently.

“The store also includes a focus on delivering additional value, with member price savings across a wide range of everyday essentials so that the people who own our business, our member-owners, benefit every time they shop.”

The Co-op, one of the world’s largest consumer-owned co-operatives, boasts a network of almost 2,400 food stores and supplies products to over 6,000 other stores.

In March this year, the convenience retailer relaunched its Chelston store in Torquay, southwest England, following a six-week refurbishment programme.
