Global e-commerce company eBay has introduced a new consignment service for luxury product shoppers and sellers.

To launch this service, eBay has partnered with Linda Lightman, a luxury goods seller and the founder of Linda’s Stuff. The new service provides customers with direct access to sellers who will list and sell their luxury items on their behalf.

Linda has been operating a consignment store on eBay for more than 20 years.

The service will be first available for designer handbags, with plans to include additional luxury categories, including jewellery and watches, next year.

Consumers can sell new and pre-owned handbags from major brands like Chanel, Hermès, Louis Vuitton, PRADA and Saint Laurent.

The consignment partner will be responsible for every process, including photography and pricing.

According to eBay, eligible items listed for $500 or more will feature the eBay Authenticity Guarantee checkmark. They will be scrutinised through eBay’s authentication process once purchased.

eBay luxury global GM Tirath Kamdar said: “Our top priority is to respond to the ever-evolving needs of our customers and continuously delight luxury shoppers and sellers.

“Launching a consignment service builds on the momentum of offerings like Authenticity Guarantee and Certified By Brand, giving our customers more trusted ways to buy and sell on the marketplace.”

eBay’s consignment service comes closely after several recent fashion category announcements, including the expansion of its Authenticity Guarantee service to new and pre-owned streetwear.

In July this year, the e-commerce retailer acquired Certilogo, an AI-powered authentication provider.

Earlier this year, eBay acquired 3PM Shield, a company that provides artificial intelligence-based online retail solutions.
