Canadian discount retailer Giant Tiger Stores has selected digital commerce solutions firm Mercatus to serve as its mobile solution provider.

The partnership aims to enhance the shopping experience of the retailer’s loyalty programme members and everyday shoppers.

Giant Tiger Stores corporate strategy and marketing senior vice president Cindy-Lynn Steele said: “Investing in the digital experience for our customers is a strategic priority at Giant Tiger.

“By committing to the technology we need to support our retail evolution and total customer experience, we are preparing Giant Tiger for growth in this exciting digital retail landscape.”

The partnership has allowed Mercatus to enter the general merchandise and apparel retail category, with Giant Tiger as its first Canadian customer.

Mercatus has also made Giant Tiger’s mobile app available for English and French language shoppers.

Mercatus president and CEO Sylvain Perrier said: “In order to thrive in today’s retail landscape, retailers need comprehensive digital solutions that elevate the shopping experience and we’re continuing to expand to meet those needs.

“We’re excited to launch Giant Tiger’s mobile app to help connect its customers to the store they love in both English and French. As Mercatus transcends verticals and borders, we continue our commitment to provide retailers with personalised, best-in-breed digital solutions.”

In March this year, US food retailer Brookshire Grocery selected Mercatus to offer online ordering with a curbside pick-up service to 100 stores.
