Meijer has opened a 150,000ft² supercentre at Flat Rock, Michigan, US.

The new outlet is the last of nine new Meijer supercentres to open, as part of an investment of more than $400m in new and remodeled stores this year.

The openings have created 3,000 new jobs across six states.

"We are pleased to provide our new neighbours with an incredible combination of selection and quality at lower prices."

Meijer CEO Hank Meijer said: “We always strive to find locations that will bring a fresher retail approach to communities, so we are pleased to provide our new neighbours with an incredible combination of selection and quality at lower prices."

The new store is built to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards and will be open 24h a day.

Among the grocery options that Meijer offers at the new store include more than 600 varieties of farm-fresh produce and a full-service meat department that features fresh seafood, certified Angus beef and custom cuts of meat.

The bakery specialises in custom-decorated cakes and fresh bread.

In addition to the retailer's traditional grocery and merchandise, garden centre, and 24h gas station, the new Flat Rock Meijer pharmacy will offer drive-thru pick up and the company's free prescription programme.

Meijer operates 230 supercentres and grocery stores throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Wisconsin.
