US-based retail drugstore chain Rite Aid is set to initiate its ‘After Work Wednesday Walk-In Clinic’ offering.

On 1 November, select Rite Aid stores will be open from 5-9pm for immunisation services.

Rite Aid pharmacists can immunise adults and children three years of age and older. Immunisations for After Work Wednesday include routine vaccinations that provide critical protection against certain diseases, some of which are required for certain ages, activities, or for overseas travel. These include shingles, tetanus, pertussis, RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus), among others, depending on age and state regulations, in addition to the available flu and COVID-19 (2023-2024) vaccines.

Customers who are unable to attend After Work Wednesday can schedule an appointment for immunisations at their local Rite Aid through the retailer’s online scheduling tool.

Rite Aid also provides an Immunisation Evaluation Questionnaire on its website. The questionnaire guides customers to ensure they are up to date with all necessary immunisations based on their age, conditions, or occupation.

Rite Aid chief pharmacy officer Karen Staniforth commented: “With the help of our trusted pharmacy experts, we’re excited to offer families an opportunity to get the immunisations they need, at a time that fits their schedules.”

The retailer has recently struggled with bankruptcy, filing for proceedings to implement financial restructuring and listing both assets and liabilities in the range of $1bn to $10bn.

In spite of this, Rite Aid’s walk-in clinic is a positive move for the business. Flexible opening hours provide an opportunity for retailers to differentiate themselves from competitors that only operate within traditional working hours.
