SPAR Hungary has continued its investment programme across its store portfolio by modernising two SPAR Supermarkets in Budapest.

The company upgraded SPAR on Szigony Street and SPAR on Corvin Palace with an investment of Ft1bn ($2.76m) on each store.

The renovated SPAR Supermarket on Szigony Street in Józsefváros is staffed by 29 people. It features sections for fruit and vegetables, dairy, beverages, baked goods, grilled foods and refrigerated goods.

It also supplies convenience items.

With sustainability in mind, the retail area of the store has LED lighting and environmentally friendly carbon-dioxide refrigeration technology.

The complete renewal and upgradation of the central square and its surroundings is still underway.

The renovated SPAR supermarket in Corvin Palace offers a diverse range of convenience products, including fresh deli and meat products to serve nearby office workers.

The 1,587m² store has 37 colleagues and also houses a vegetable department, as well as a SPAR To-Go counter for hot food options.

To improve customer convenience, the checkout area of the store includes self-service cash registers.

SPAR on Corvin Palace features LED lighting and a carbon dioxide-based heat pump system that leverages heat recovery to save energy usage for operation.

The company said the environmentally-friendly solutions help improve ‘the store’s appeal and promote cost-effective operations’ while minimising energy consumption.

The improvements also focused on customer convenience and high-quality product offerings.

SPAR Hungary opened a new supermarket in Sárospatak in April this year.
