US retail major Amazon and Walmart-owned Flipkart have begun reviewing security camera listings in India after hundreds of products without government approval were found on sale.

People familiar with the matter told Reuters that the companies were assessing connected-camera listings offered by third-party merchants and brands.

They said products found not to have the required approval would be removed.

India introduced the testing requirement six months ago, having announced the rules in 2024.

Since April, camera makers have had to submit their hardware and software for Bureau of Indian Standards certification before selling their products in the country.

The news agency reported last week that more than 700 of around 770 internet-connected camera listings across Amazon and Flipkart did not appear in the bureau’s public database of approved brands or models.

At least 12 listings have been removed since Tuesday, 29 September 2026, including two or more Hikvision EZVIZ models.

However, the report said hundreds of listings remained available as of Thursday, 1 October 2026.

The news agency also identified at least eight uncertified Wi-Fi camera models from Hikvision and Dahua on Amazon.

A source said that Amazon planned to remove the Imou brand page, which is owned by China’s Dahua.

The Bureau of Indian Standards database did not list approvals for any of the 138 “Wi-Fi camera” products sold by Maizic Smarthomes on Amazon.

Maizic Smarthomes co-founder Santosh Kumar Singh said the company had disabled Wi-Fi functionality that enabled live feeds while it sought approval.

He later said some of its devices did not fall under the regulations, while products needing clearances had been withdrawn pending approval.

The requirements reflect concern in New Delhi that sensitive camera footage could be transmitted overseas.
